Flaming Medusa Studios was approached by an entertainer in New York City who had been having a lot of success with a character that he created, the pirate Billy Bones. He wanted to create a pitch for an educational children’s television show called Pirate School that would be based upon this character. In order to build pitch materials that would convey the idea of the series to network executives, he knew that he needed help from a studio that was experienced with animation in order to create materials that would show his idea to the executives at major networks in the best and most professional light.
Flaming Medusa Studios was able to build several elements to complete and enhance the pilot’s live action footage. Flaming Medusa designed an animated character that was based upon the live action Billy Bones character; we created a 30 second animated sequence to introduce the pilot, and several short animated interstitials that would serve as segues between different live actions segments of the show. These were all created in Flash to maximize the budget. We also created a one minute animated educational sequence about lighthouses that was to be done in a paper and pencil hand drawn style, to reflect the eclectic nature of the future show. We also provided the creator with print quality artwork from the process to use as supporting information in his written pitch materials.
The creator has since shown the materials to several executives from major networks and has gotten a great response to the quality of animation and to the concept, as well as a distribution offer.
