How to Choose an Animation Studio

Choosing an animation studio can be a daunting task. You want a company who can understand your vision, come up with creative solutions, and deliver a unique and professional product. Here’s what to look for to ensure the best possible experience working with an animation studio.

Examples

Studios should have past projects or portfolios available for review. Never contract with a company that doesn’t provide examples of previous work.

Experience

Check the credentials of the studio and its members, look for degrees in related fields and experience on professional projects.

Reasonable Costs

A studio should charge a reasonable amount for their services. Unusually low prices are a red flag for an inexperienced or low quality studio, and may end in an incomplete project or a budget raise part-way through.

Contracts

A professional studio will always require a contract that sets out specific terms for the project, including project details, payment terms, and copyright issues.

Specific About Services

A good studio will be specific about the services they’re providing, including sound, editing, voice over recording, music, and other issues that will need to be specifically discussed. You should always know exactly what the studio is going to deliver.

Revisions

Revisions are necessary in even the most professional studios. This should be acknowledged in the contract, which should set out how revisions are handled and how much they cost.

Client Involvement

When working with an animation studio, you should be involved every step of the way. A professional studio will send sketches and design ideas for your approval. When speaking to members of an animation studio, you should feel that you’re being listened to and that your ideas are respected.

The Better Business Bureau

Before contracting with a studio, look up their history with the BBB. See if they are a member, and what their rating is. A BBB membership shows that the studio is concerned with client satisfaction and uses ethical practices.

Choosing a great animation studio can be tough, but these tips should help you choose with confidence.

Feel free to contact Flaming Medusa Studios with any questions or project ideas.

Flaming Medusa Studios is born

Flaming Medusa Studios Logo

Cincinnati, Ohio (April 26, 2010)- DarcyVDesign, Inc. last appeared in the news in conjunction with the creation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th Anniversary Movie. Now the company would like to announce that it is renamed Flaming Medusa Studios Inc. beginning April 26, 2010.

The name change is being carried out to further focus the company’s branding on animation, and to reflect the company’s strengths, personality, and belief system.

The mythological figure of Medusa was chosen to represent the company because of her fame in ancient lore, and because of Medusa’s inherent ability to captivate. The underlying feminist thread of her tale also provides food for thought for the woman-owned company.

About mythological Medusa
The legend of Medusa originated in Libya, where she was worshipped as a serpent-goddess. Her tale then moved to Greece where she assumed the name Medusa, the translation of which means “sovereign female wisdom” in several languages. The idea of Medusa’s head as a threat or weapon was also developed during that time. Some researchers view her eventual beheading as a symbolic silencing of female wisdom and expression.

Medusa’s famous serpentine hair also adds to her mythology. The serpent is representative of the cycles of nature. It also symbolizes immortality, as the serpent was at one point believed to shed its skin indefinitely.
